In addition to being a fantastic dog-friendly beach Fort Funston is also a popular place for hang gliding.

It’s a recreational two-fer: a fun doggie walk on the beach along with the occasional buzz by a hang glider.

How many parks can deliver that?

It was pretty interesting to see folks setting up …

… and contrary to the stereotypes, this isn’t necessarily a sport for the super young and crazy. Nearly everyone here was well over 50.

Hmmm. Gives me something to look forward to.

As Lily and I walked along the cliff tops we could hear the hang gliders singing to themselves as they floated so gracefully above us.

You could tell they were having a beautiful time up there.

After our long beach walk Lily and I plopped ourselves down near the glider take-off point and watched glider after glider jump off the cliff and float gently into the air.

Amazing. They take a half dozen almost slow-motion steps forward before they gently leap off the cliff and into the air.

Wow. Recreational fun on earth and in the air all wrapped up into one fun park experience.

If you haven’t been, grab your dog and go.
