Milu

This is my mom’s dog, Milu (pronounced Mee-Loooo).We have no idea what kind of dog he is, but he reminds me a little of a King Charles spaniel, maybe mixed with some Asian spaniel-type.

He’s the absolute sweetest little dude.

He’s so laid back and easy going; nothing much bothers him. He loves affection. And for sure he’s a family dog, happiest in the midst of his pack.

At the smallest invitation he’ll come lay his head against your leg or curl up next to your foot.

And he’s got the most adorable chocolately brown eyes that look at you with such love. He’s so cute!

Travel: Dogs of Alaska (and their owners)

Standard

Everyone in Alaska seems to have at LEAST one dog and they bring said dog(s) everywhere. Wherever the people go, the dogs go, too. If you don’t like dogs, don’t go to Alaska. Really. Seriously. Slowly back away from the state border and run like hell. RUN LIKE THE WIND! Go, go, go!

Still here? Okay, let’s move on and meet our first dog.

Teresa and Jaime have three dogs and two cats. At some point I will introduce you to Cosmo (named after Suz Brockmann’s fictional heartthrob character Cosmo). This dog is a lover. No surprise given his namesake.

But today, we’re not into lovers. We’re into more intimidating, scary, ferocious canines.

This is Teresa’s brother Lorien’s dog who comes over almost daily to romp with the Hollingsworth pooches while Lorien’s at work. It’s some kind of awesome doggy daycare, man.

Meet R-Lo.

Travel: Albuquerque, New Mexico by horseback

Yesterday I got a chance to go trail riding out at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort & Spa in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Tamaya tribe is one of nineteen tribes that reside along the Rio Grande in New Mexico. They own a casino along with the Tamaya Resort, which is managed by the Hyatt Corporation. It’s a beautiful property that uniquely incorporates the culture of the Tamaya tribe with the hospitality of Hyatt. It’s an incredibly peaceful place that has a wide variety of activities right on the property. Aside from the standards such as spa, swimming (with a fantasy waterslide), tennis and golf, they also have bread making, pottery classes, hot air ballooning, Native American dancing, tribal story-telling around fire pits, rodeoing, trail riding and much, MUCH more.

I had the opportunity to go trail riding on the property and it was such a delight. I rode horses—hunter/jumper—all the way through college, but haven’t been on a horse in years. I was anxious to get back in the saddle. These trail horses weren’t your typical pokies, they had some real get up and go. Thank God!

Day in the Life: Meet Roxy

Roxy

Hello. My name is Roxy and I’m a Tasmanian she-devil Yorkie Terrier. I’m a Solano Magazine office dog.

My favorite things are:

  • Running all out and then slip-sliding ten feet down the hallway;
  • Plastic, especially empty water bottles, which lucky for me I can just pull out of the office recycling bin;
  • My rubber bone that smells like mint;
  • Sitting in the window and talking at people.
